Seven Para Medals Mark India’s Best Commonwealth Games Performance

New Delhi, August 5 – India’s para sport community celebrated a record‑breaking performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where Indian athletes captured seven medals across athletics and powerlifting disciplines. The haul of three gold, two silver and two bronze medals eclipses all previous Indian achievements at the Games.

The PCI, together with the M3M Foundation, hosted a recognition event for the medal winners—Sharmila Dhanakhar, Shilpa Shaila, Jhandu Kumar, Soman Rana, Shubham Juyal, Dilip Manadu Gavit and Mohammad Basil—and their coaches. The event underscored the importance of systematic training, family support and professional guidance in reaching the podium.

Speaking at the ceremony, PCI President Devendra Jhajharia emphasized that the medals represent not just a tally but a testament to the unwavering resolve of India’s para athletes, their mentors and the broader support network that has been built over many years.
