South Africa has triumphed over Australia in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s, securing a convincing 5-wicket victory and claiming their first ICC trophy in 27 years. After winning the toss and electing to field, South Africa’s bowlers restricted Australia to 212 runs in their first innings. Steve Smith and Beau Webster managed to score 66 and 72 runs respectively, but the rest of the batting lineup faltered, with three batsmen failing to score. Kagiso Rabada starred with a five-wicket haul, supported by Marco Jansen’s three wickets.
In response, South Africa struggled, being bowled out for 138 in their first innings, with David Bedingham top-scoring with 45. Australia’s captain, Pat Cummins, took six wickets. In the second innings, Australia managed 207 runs, with Mitchell Starc scoring a half-century. Rabada again impressed, taking four wickets. South Africa then chased down a target of 282, thanks to a brilliant century from Aiden Markram, who scored 136. Captain Temba Bavuma also contributed with 66 runs, leading South Africa to a historic victory.
