In a thrilling, rain-affected match, South Delhi Superstarz stormed into the Delhi Premier League playoffs with an impressive 8-wicket win against Purani Dilli 6. Chasing a formidable target of 134 in a shortened 7-over innings, the Superstarz reached the finish line with a ball to spare, producing a boundary-laden spectacle on Wednesday.
Openers Tejasvi Dahiya and Anmol Sharma unleashed a relentless assault on the bowlers, setting the tone for a dominant performance. Their partnership propelled the team to the fastest team fifty of the tournament. They put on a massive 122 runs in just 5.5 overs, leaving their opponents struggling to find answers.
Dahiya was eventually dismissed for a remarkable 69 off 21 balls, playing a pivotal role in the chase. Despite a brief pause when Vision Panchal was run out for six, Sharma maintained his composure. With only two balls remaining and a few runs needed, he sealed the victory with a powerful six over long-on. Sharma remained unbeaten on 56 from a mere 17 deliveries, leading his team to safety with a steady presence and strong batting.
Earlier, Dev Lakra shone for Purani Dilli 6 after early setbacks threatened to derail their innings. Following a rain delay, South Delhi’s Aman Bharti struck early, dismissing Vansh Bedi and Samarth Seth in the opening over. But Lakra and Yug Gupta turned the game with a fierce counterattack.
Their 117-run partnership at the third wicket was incredibly rapid, with Gupta contributing a quick 38 off 14 balls before being run out. Lakra, however, was in a league of his own, scoring an undefeated 85 off just 23 deliveries. His powerful hitting and numerous sixes electrified the crowd as Purani Dilli 6 posted a menacing 133/3 in their 7 overs.
Despite the imposing target, South Delhi Superstarz showcased their grit and class, successfully chasing down the victory and earning a playoff spot. Their aggressive batting and calm demeanor under pressure have established them as strong contenders in the tournament’s crucial stages.
