Stability Drive: Bayern Secures Executive Team Through 2029
Bayern Munich has taken a decisive step toward long‑term stability by extending the contracts of CEO Jan‑Christoph Driesen and sporting board member Max Aberl to June 2029. The Supervisory Board ratified the extensions during its weekly meeting, effectively pushing the original 2027 expiry dates forward by two years.
Driesen’s Bayern journey started in 2013 as CFO, followed by a promotion to deputy CEO a year later, and finally his appointment as chief executive in May 2023. Max Aberl, aged 52, returns to the club after managerial roles at Borussia Mönchengladbach and RB Leipzig. He originally joined Bayern’s youth academy at six, rose through the ranks, and eventually debuted for the first team before moving into management.
In his post‑approval remarks, Driesen thanked the Supervisory Board for its confidence and pledged to keep FC Bayern a top‑tier club that its fans can be proud of. He highlighted ongoing projects that require a stable leadership environment to reach fruition.
Aberl, speaking about the renewed contract, recalled his lifelong connection to Bayern and described the board’s trust as a valuable badge of honour. Both officials stressed that continuity at the helm is essential for delivering on‑field success and expanding the club’s commercial reach.
Chairman Herbert Hainer stressed that continuity breeds strength, noting that Bayern must continue to evolve at the highest level to retain its place among Europe’s elite. He pointed out that the management board, now comprising Driesen, Aberl and Marketing & Sales Executive Ruwen Kaspersen, is positioned to move the club forward both on the pitch and behind the scenes.
The new governance model, effective from July 2024, is built to accelerate decision‑making while preserving coordination across the leadership team, reinforcing Bayern’s ambition to remain a dominant force in world football.
