Hockey fans in India have reason to celebrate as the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup returns, with the Indian team set to compete for the prestigious title. This marks India’s first appearance in the tournament since 2019, fueling anticipation among followers of the sport. The event is scheduled to take place in Ipoh, Malaysia, from November 23rd to November 30th, 2025. India boasts a strong legacy in this competition, being the second most successful team with five titles to their name, trailing only Australia’s ten championships. The Sultan Azlan Shah Cup is a well-regarded international hockey event organized by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation and endorsed by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).
This year, India will be represented by a B squad, with several key senior players being rested to allow emerging talent to shine. Notably absent from the lineup are captain Harmanpreet Singh, veteran Manpreet, and striker Mandeep. The goalkeeping duties will be handled by young prospects Pawan and Mohith HS, as first-choice keepers Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Suraj Karkera are not participating. Defender Sanjay will lead the charge for the Indian team, supported by players such as Jugraj Singh, Amit Rohidas, Nilakanta Sharma, Vivek Sagar Prasad, Sukhjeet Singh, Dilpreet Singh, and Abhishek.
The tournament will follow a round-robin format, where all six participating nations – India, hosts Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Canada, and Belgium – will face each other once. The stage is set for exciting matches leading up to the grand finale on November 30th. Indian fans can catch all the action live through FanCode, which will be streaming the matches on its app and website.
