A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in the Supreme Court seeking the cancellation of the upcoming India vs. Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to be held in Dubai. The petition, brought forth by four law students led by Ms. Urvashi Jain, cited concerns related to prevailing political tensions, national disasters, and the impact on public sentiment. The petitioners argued that playing a cricket match with Pakistan would be insensitive given recent events, including the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, where lives were lost. They asserted that sporting events should not take precedence over national dignity or human life. However, the Supreme Court bench, consisting of Justices JK Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi, dismissed the plea, stating that it was “just a match.”
