Defending her reputation as the queen of clay, Iga Swiatek dismantled Australian teenager Emerson Jones 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the 2026 French Open. The third seed raced through the opening set after an immediate break and never looked back, winning seven straight games across the two sets while conceding just one service game. Jones, contesting her first senior clay match on the biggest stage, struggled to find rhythm against Swiatek’s heavy spin and depth. Although the 17-year-old broke back once in the second set to briefly narrow the gap to 3-2, Swiatek responded with three consecutive breaks to close the match. With four French Open crowns and ten clay titles already secured, Swiatek enters the tournament as the clear favorite. She will next meet Sara Bejlek, who continued her own impressive run by ousting Sloane Stephens. The result leaves Jones still searching for her first Grand Slam set win after three main-draw appearances.
