Tanvi Sharma Ends 17‑Year Drought for India at Taipei Open Super 300

New Delhi, Aug 2 – With a decisive win over Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Linh, Tanvi Sharma secured the Taipei Open Super 300 crown, breaking a 17‑year wait for an Indian woman to win the event. The 17‑year‑old closed the final 21‑16 21‑16 in just 36 minutes, showcasing composure far beyond her age.

Two‑time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu took to social media to celebrate the achievement, emphasizing Tanvi’s blend of natural talent, aggressive stroke play and the bravery required to challenge top‑ranked opponents. Sindhu remarked that the teenager only needed a touch more consistency and experience, which the victory proved she now possesses.

Tanvi’s triumph also marks her as the second Indian woman after Saina Nehwal (2008) to lift the Taipei Open trophy, reaffirming the nation’s growing strength in women’s badminton.
