Tottenham Eye Momentum Ahead of London Derby Against Chelsea
New Delhi, October 24
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Sandro Tonali has highlighted the London derby against Chelsea as a golden opportunity for his team to revive their season. Tonali said the match offers a platform to regain confidence and give the club's passionate supporters a chance to celebrate.
The highly anticipated fixture will be played on Saturday. Tottenham will try to continue their winning run after beating Coventry City 3-1 in their previous outing. Tonali described Chelsea as one of the most significant rivals Tottenham face, and he underlined the importance of carrying forward the momentum from the side's first league win of the campaign.
He said, "Chelsea is one of our biggest rivals. This game gives us a fantastic chance to bounce back, boost our confidence and put our season back on track."
The midfielder conceded that Tottenham took considerable time to earn their first Premier League win. The opening phase of the campaign had been tough, and the side only secured its first victory after six matches. Tonali said the team was happy to finally claim it and offered thanks to everyone associated with the club, including supporters, players and staff.
Looking back at recent fixtures, Tonali referred to the games against Manchester United and Aston Villa. He explained that Tottenham had been performing well before a red card against Manchester United, and that they had played their finest first half of the season against Aston Villa. He insisted that although that match was lost, the team's showing had not been bad at all.
Tonali accepted that facing Chelsea would be a demanding task. He encouraged teammates to remain disciplined in their approach and to give their best across the full 90 minutes. "The Chelsea game will be very difficult, but we have to play according to our strengths and stick to our style. If we want to win this match, we must give absolutely everything."
He admitted that dropping points in recent weeks had affected the squad's confidence. However, he stressed that Tottenham have the capability and spirit to get their campaign back on track. In his view, the squad is strong and has been creating chances in almost every match, yet it has repeatedly dropped points for various reasons. The victory over Coventry, he said, proved to be a turning point that the team must now build upon with a run of consecutive wins.
Talking about the intensity of the London rivalry, Tonali noted that the fixture is special for fans of both clubs and demands complete dedication from players. "The rivalry between Tottenham and Chelsea is one of the biggest in English football. You can feel it as soon as you walk onto the pitch. Fans speak about this match all year, and you understand how much it matters to them. As a player, you always eagerly await matches like this."
He added that in fixtures of this kind, form and league position count for less than desire and effort. "It all depends on how hungry you are to win, how much you battle and who wants victory more on the day. We know how crucial this match is for our supporters, and we want to give them a reason to celebrate."
