Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, had also met with Wellalage to express his condolences. The incident occurred during the Sri Lanka vs. Afghanistan match, where Wellalage’s father suffered a heart attack, reportedly after witnessing his son’s performance. Mohammad Nabi hit five sixes in an over bowled by Wellalage in the final over of the Afghanistan innings. Despite the emotional turmoil, Sri Lanka secured a six-wicket victory, eliminating Afghanistan from the Asia Cup.
