Cricket fans are buzzing as Virat Kohli is set to feature for Delhi in the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has confirmed the star batter’s availability for at least three matches in the tournament, which is scheduled to commence on December 24. This move by Kohli comes as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) encourages senior players to actively participate in domestic cricket. Kohli, a former India captain, has a remarkable track record in this tournament. Across 12 matches, he has amassed 763 runs with an impressive average of 69.33, including a highest score of 124. His standout performance in the 2008-09 edition saw him score 534 runs in seven games, making him the leading run-scorer and notching four centuries. This strong domestic showing fast-tracked his entry into the national ODI side, where he has since become a legendary figure, contributing to India’s 2011 ODI World Cup victory and leading them to the 2019 semi-finals. While the recent ODI World Cup final loss is still fresh, Kohli’s commitment to domestic cricket suggests he has his sights set on future tournaments, potentially including the 2027 ODI World Cup.
