Wanindu Hasaranga has been included in Sri Lanka’s 16-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in the UAE starting September 9th. However, he will not be participating in the Sri Lankan team’s tour of Zimbabwe, which begins with the first ODI in Harare on Friday, followed by another ODI and three T20Is.
Hasaranga sustained a hamstring injury during Sri Lanka’s home series against Bangladesh. Despite this injury, he has secured a spot in the Asia Cup squad. The squad also features young batsmen Kamil Mishara and Nuwanidu Fernando.
Alongside Hasaranga, the team includes spin bowling options Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana. After a significant defeat to India in the 2023 Asia Cup final, Sri Lanka is placed in Group B, alongside Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Hong Kong. Their group stage matches will be against Bangladesh on September 13, Hong Kong on September 15, and Afghanistan on September 18, before the Super Four stage.
