The West Delhi Lions secured a significant victory in the seventh match of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) against the South Delhi Superstarz at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Lions’ performance was highlighted by a dominant opening partnership between Ankit Kumar and Krish Yadav, which dismantled the South Delhi bowling attack. South Delhi Superstarz, after winning the toss, chose to bat first, setting a target of 186 runs. The West Delhi Lions’ opening duo, Krish Yadav and Ankit Kumar, forged a remarkable 158-run partnership in just 14 overs. Krish Yadav impressed with a dynamic knock of 67 off 42 deliveries, while Ankit Kumar delivered a powerful performance, smashing 96 off 46 balls.
Earlier in the day, South Delhi Superstarz had a strong start, with openers Kunwar Bidhuri (42 off 27) and Sumit Mathur (33 off 29) establishing a solid 74-run opening partnership. Captain Ayush Badoni further contributed with a useful 48 from 25 balls through the middle overs. However, South Delhi lost wickets towards the end of their innings, concluding with 185/7 from their 20 overs.
The West Delhi bowling attack rallied in the final overs, restricting South Delhi from a strong finish. Anirudh Chowdhary led the attack, taking 3/25 in his 4-over spell, supported by Manan Bhardwaj (2/23) and Hrithik Shokeen (1/16). The Lions’ bowlers applied pressure during the death overs. The West Delhi Lions showcased a comprehensive display, with sharp bowling and impactful batting. With both units at their best, the Lions successfully chased down the target with ease, achieving victory with 14 balls to spare.
