West Indies Secure Biggest T20I Chase Ever Against India
Ranchi witnessed a historic T20 International when the West Indies successfully chased 250 runs against India, finishing the run‑chase with nine balls remaining and four wickets in hand. This achievement stands as the largest T20I chase by West Indies and their biggest target conquered against India, ranking second only to one other chase in the annals of the format.
India's batting effort yielded 249/5, highlighted by Sanju Samson's 82 off 41 balls—nine fours and four sixes—alongside contributions from Ishaan Kishan (43 off 22), Shreyas Iyer (40 off 18) and Tilak Varma (44 runs with three fours and three sixes).
West Indies' start was shaky: Kamal Puran managed four runs before being dismissed, Shimon Hetmyer succumbed to a first‑ball bowled, and Rovman Powell added 24 from 13 balls before falling. At 58 for three, the required rate climbed sharply.
Captain Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford then rebuilt the innings, compiling a 120‑run stand for the fourth wicket in just 54 balls. Rutherford smashed 84 off 37 deliveries, featuring seven fours and seven sixes. After Rutherford's wicket, Hope partnered with Romario Shepherd, adding 74 runs in 26 balls. Hope remained unbeaten with 102 off 45 balls, while Shepherd contributed 34 off 13, guiding the Caribbean side to a memorable win.
