Yashasvi Jaiswal’s impressive performance during the first Test at Leeds, where he scored a century, has grabbed attention, especially a lighthearted exchange caught on the stump mic. Jaiswal, who reached 101 runs, shared a 91-run partnership with KL Rahul before debutant Sai Sudarshan’s early departure. Shubman Gill, the newly appointed captain, then joined Jaiswal at the crease. Their conversation, later picked up by the stump mic, revealed Jaiswal’s humorous warning to Gill: ‘Just tell me NO loudly when you don’t want a run, I’ve a habit to run after hitting.’
Jaiswal’s innings was a dominant display, marking his first century in a match in both Australia and England. His batting focused heavily on off-side play, with the majority of his runs coming from cuts and drives against the English seamers. At the tea break, he was unbeaten on 63 alongside Gill in a 123-run partnership. Gill showcased his aggressive pace, reaching his 50 in just 56 balls, the quickest of his Test career. Jaiswal reached the three-figure mark with boundaries off Brydon Carse. He got his 50 in the next 48 balls, only facing a challenge from Carse with a fast yorker that hit his toe, which he managed to overcome.
