Indian cricket’s rising star, Yashasvi Jaiswal, is on the cusp of making history. Following his impressive debut in 2023, the left-handed batsman is nearing the 2000-run mark in Test cricket. Needing only 202 more runs, Jaiswal is aiming to become the fastest Indian to achieve this milestone. Currently, Jaiswal has accumulated 1798 runs in 19 Test matches (36 innings), maintaining an average of 52.88, including four centuries and ten half-centuries. Surpassing legends like Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag, who took 40 innings, Jaiswal could reach 2000 runs in his next three innings. The upcoming Test series in England, commencing June 20, poses a significant challenge due to the challenging conditions. His performance in warm-up games has been modest, with one half-century in four innings against the England Lions. However, Jaiswal’s strong form overseas, demonstrated by being India’s second-highest run-scorer in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 391 runs at an average of 43.44, will undoubtedly boost his confidence.
