Yashveer Singh’s 85.41m throw secures bronze for India at Glasgow

Glasgow, 1 August – In a thrilling finish to the men’s javelin competition, India’s Yashveer Singh threw a distance of 85.41 metres, capturing the bronze medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Singh’s post‑event interview highlighted his gratitude: “Winning my first medal internationally fills me with immense happiness. My family’s encouragement and Neeraj Chopra’s advice throughout the competition were invaluable.”

His performance trajectory showed a gradual rise: a 78.55‑metre throw in the second round, a stronger 81.33 metres in the third, a dip to 76.95 metres in the fifth, before achieving the winning mark on his final attempt.

Neeraj Chopra, who finished second with a silver, praised Singh’s determination. “It’s wonderful to see Yashveer on the podium. Our season’s best performances have finally paid off,” the Olympic champion stated.

India concluded the day with a total of six medals: three from judo, golds by Asmita De and Harsh Singh, a silver by Yamini Morra, a bronze by decathlete Tejaswin Shankar, along with Neeraj’s silver and Singh’s bronze in javelin.
