In Chhattisgarh, a significant incident occurred in Sukma district when a Maoist-planted IED exploded. The blast resulted in the death of ASP Akash Rao Giripunje and injuries to several other police personnel. The explosion took place near the village of Dondra, where the police were conducting patrols in light of a bandh called by Maoists. The incident occurred between 9 and 10 a.m. on Monday. ASP Giripunje, who was leading the patrol, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Following the blast, search operations have been intensified in the area. Deputy CM Vijay Shamra expressed his sorrow, calling Giripunje a brave officer who had received numerous gallantry awards. The incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in combating Naxalism. Earlier, in January 2025, a major Maoist attack in Bijapur district claimed the lives of nine people. Security forces are facing an ongoing challenge from such attacks.
