The festival of Diwali is about to come. In Indian culture, cleanliness and paint-painting have special importance in the preparations for this festival. That is why these days its advertisements are also shown a lot on TV and Internet. Influenced by these, people in towns and villages also now want to get paint and distemper installed in their homes. But chemical paints available in the market affect people’s pockets as well as health. Keeping this in mind, women of Govardhan Self Help Group are making natural paint from cow dung in Raipur Municipal Corporation, Zone 8, Jarwai Gauthan. This paint is not less than the market paint in terms of quality and at the same time it is beneficial for health. The paint made from cow dung was first used for painting the building of Raipur Municipal Corporation. 500 kg of paint was used for the attractive painting of the municipal building. Apart from government buildings, the demand for this paint is also increasing among the common people. In Ambikapur, 120 liters of paint and 70 liters in Korba have been used by the local people, while in the capital also many people have painted their houses with this paint. Dhaneshwari Ratre, president of Jarvai Gothan’s self-help group, tells that 22 women work in her group. Thinking of doing something new, he started the work of making paint from cow dung. Women also received proper training to make paint from cow dung. Paint making started from April 2022 and till now three thousand liters of paint have been sold by the women of the group. The paint made from cow dung is available in half liter, one, four, and ten liter cartons. Most of the paints available in the market contain such substances and heavy metals which harm our health. At the same time, the paint made from cow dung is made of natural substances, hence it is also called natural paint. The price of chemical based paints starts from Rs 350 per liter but the price of natural paints made from cow dung starts from Rs 150. Being made of cow dung, it also has many benefits such as this paint is antibacterial, antifungal, as well as protects the walls of the house from overheating in summer and regulates the temperature. * This is how natural paint is prepared from cow dung * The cow dung is first mixed well with water in the machine, then the fiber and liquid of cow dung from this mixed solution is separated with the help of de-watering machine. This liquid is heated to 100 degrees and its extract is made, which is used as a base for paints. After which the paint is prepared by processing it. Carboxy methyl cellulose (CSC) is the main ingredient in the manufacture of natural paint from cow dung. About 10 kg of dry CMC is prepared from 100 kg of cow dung. CMC constitutes 30% of the total manufactured paint. This paint, made by the women of Govardhan Self-Help Group, is not only a source of income for women, but is also creating a separate identity for women. Like this:Like Loading… Continue Reading
