The work of cultivation of medicinal species is being specially promoted in the state under various schemes run by the Chhattisgarh Tribal, Local Health Traditions and Medicinal Plants Board. Under this, at present, cultivation of medicinal species is being done in more than 1000 acres of land by selecting climate-friendly species in different areas of the state. According to the intention of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, under the efficient guidance of Forest and Climate Change Minister Mr. Mohammad Akbar, cultivation of Ambikapur, Mainpat, Jashpur and Rosemary in central region of Bastar and Monadra citrodora in the northern part of Chhattisgarh for lavender cultivation under pilot project. Promotion of work has been marked. Due to the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic species, farmers get double or even more profit than traditional farming. Chief Executive Officer of the Medicinal Plants Board Shri J.A.C. Rao said that under the National Aroma Mission scheme, the work of cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants is going on in the state with the help of Chhattisgarh Tribal, Local Health Tradition and Plant Board. Lemongrass, CKP-25 (lemon grass) is being cultivated under this mission plan. Under the scheme, mainly the farmer groups and farmers are being given all kinds of help like technical information about agriculture, availability of planting material and making available distillation machines. Presently work is being done by 02 groups in the state of Chhattisgarh, in which oil is being extracted through distillery by starting agriculture at village-Churki, Deori, Khemda, Dongargaon, Mohda and other places under district Mahasamund. A distillery has also been installed there. The benefits obtained after cultivation of lemongrass are almost two times more than traditional cultivation. Chhattisgarh Tribal, Local Health Traditions and Medicinal Plants Board has entered into an agreement with various institutions to sell the products in a planned manner in the past as well, so that the farmers do not face any problem in selling their products. Along with I.I.I.M. Technical experts from Jammu, Dr. Rajendra Bawaria and Mr. Rajendra Gochar, are continuously training the farmers for technical knowledge and capacity development of agriculture by visiting the area throughout the year. Through this, the difficulties faced by the farmers in agriculture are being resolved, which is a commendable work. Similarly, the second group has been started under district Gariaband. In which a large number of farmers have been trained and currently field visits have been made for the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants. In these, 04 groups will be formed by the farmers of Dhamtari, Bastar, Pendra, Durg districts and the work of cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants will be started in the near future. The Jamarose CN-5 variety has also been tested by the board along with lemongrass farming in the last year, which is currently being expanded. Jamarose CN-5 species is being cultivated in about 25 acres and lemongrass in more than 300 acres. Presently I.I.I.M. Jammu and seven distilleries have been installed by the farmers themselves. There is a plan to make Chhattisgarh a special model for the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants under the leadership of Director IIIM Jammu Dr. Srinivasa Reddy.
