State Information Commissioner of Chhattisgarh State Information Commission, Mr. Dhanvendra Jaiswal has imposed a fine of twenty five thousand rupees on four public information officers for not following the Right to Information Act and not providing information on time. Director Panchayat and Rural Development Department has been instructed to collect the amount of fine from the concerned and deposit it in the government treasury and instructions for disciplinary action against the then Chief Executive Officer, Janpad Panchayat Korba under Section 20(2) of the Right to Information Act 2005. have been given. The Right to Information Act is a meaningful effort to improve the functioning of the government and officials and bring transparency. Right to Information will be a historic step to control corruption in the country and control red tape among officials. For a healthy democracy, it is necessary for the office bearers to be accountable to their posts. Such a provision has been made through this Act, under which any citizen can get information regarding the activities of the public authority. If the information is not provided by the Public Information Officer in time to the concerned, then such officers can be punished by the State Information Commission constituted by the State Government. Under the Right to Information Act, Shri Sharad Devangan, Shri Ram Colony, Beladula Raigad, in his application dated 25 January 2018 from the Chief Executive Officer, Janpad Panchayat Korba (Public Information Officer), the list of Assistant Teacher (Panchayat), Teacher (Panchayat) posted in District Korba. Taking this seriously, the Chief Executive Officer, Janpad Panchayat Korba (then Public Information Officer) Shri GR Banjare has been punished under section 20(1) with a fine of Rs.25 thousand as well as under section 20(2) of the Right to Information Act, 2005.
