Chief Secretary, Chief Secretary Amitabh Jain has directed all the concerned departments to work in coordination with each other for the prevention of road accidents in the state. He said that better implementation of road safety measures should be ensured with everyone’s participation. Chief Secretary Shri Jain conducted a thorough review of road safety and traffic system in a meeting held at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan here today. Chief Secretary Shri Jain directed all departments to check health check up of government drivers, rules of road safety to improve road traffic. Instructions were given to initiate the training. He said that the government drivers should be seen as the brand ambassadors of road safety. Similarly, a portal should be prepared for upgradation of trauma centers and mapping of all government and private ambulances for speedy treatment of injured persons in road accidents. He directed to expedite the problems being faced in restarting citybus service in Raipur and Durg and other districts. He also said that necessary road safety measures should be ensured at the junctions of rural roads with main roads. The Chief Secretary directed to take necessary corrective measures on priority in accidental road sections, black spots. He said that NCC, Scouts, Guide cadets of various colleges, schools should be given training on safe traffic and their participation in road safety programs should be increased. By marking accidental junctions as gray-spots, early removal of encroachments and corrective measures should be taken. Illegal hoardings which are obstructing vision on various routes should also be removed expeditiously. In the meeting, the improvement of previously identified black spots, measures taken for safety at various routes, places, road safety, signs for traffic management, etc., facilities for drivers on major roads, new routes, road design from the point of view of road safety. Action taken to ensure, road safety audit of main roads, training of engineers for road safety, instructed to take action against overloaded vehicles. Apart from this, emphasis was also laid on future road safety related programs and plans and regular meeting of District Road Safety Committee. To mark a road as a pilot project in all the districts for the removal of stray animals, compliance with the guidelines of Supreme Court on Road Safety, smooth operation of the interdepartmental lead agency, the current status of empowerment, among other subjects, by the concerned departments. On expressing the need of highway patrolling by Senior Superintendent of Police Bilaspur, Director General of Police Shri Ashok Juneja assured to provide highway patrolling vehicles in the month of May. The Director General of Police, after assessing the ground problems related to road safety from all the concerned departments, prepared an effective action plan and directed its implementation. In proportion to the huge increase in the number of vehicles, there has been a decrease of 11.45 percent in road accidents, 13.42 percent in deaths and 7.84 percent in the number of injured in the first three months of this year as compared to last year. The districts with the highest number of road accidents in Chhattisgarh include Raipur (14.24%), Durg and Bilaspur (8%), Rajnandgaon (6.67%) and Raigarh (5.04%). In the last 04 years, 1 thousand 892 junctions, 454 black spots improved, 286 rumble strips, 5 thousand 241 warnings, indicator boards, 263 blinkers, truck layby-8, bus lay-by- Other security measures have been taken including 236 and Rest Area-01.
