Under the Garuva component of Suraji Gaon Yojna, one of the flagship schemes of the Government of Chhattisgarh, the Gauthans built and active in the state are rapidly moving towards self-reliance. So far 2800 Gauthans have become self-supporting in the state. Self-supporting Gauthans have now started procuring cow dung from their own income under Godhan Nyay Yojana. So far in self-supporting Gauthans, cow dung worth Rs. The number of self-supporting Gauthans is more than one third of the number of Gauthans built and operated in the state. There are 8349 Gauthans built and operated in the state. Raigad district has maximum 279 Gauthans are self-supporting. The second number is 207 in Rajnandgaon district and the third is Janjgir-Champa district, where 191 Gauthans have become self-supporting. According to the information received from Agriculture Department, 25 in Gariaband district, 90 in Dhamtari, 84 in Balodabazar, 170 in Mahasamund and 85 in Raipur district, 141 in Kabirdham, 143 in Durg, 67 in Balod, 68 in Bemetara, 175 in Korba, Gaurela 25 in Pendra-Marwahi, 82 in Bilaspur, 82 in Mungeli, 104 in Korea, 75 in Jashpur, 80 in Balrampur, 92 in Surguja, 68 in Surajpur, 144 in Kanker, 80 in Kondagaon, 59 in Dantewada, 7 in Narayanpur , 102 in Bastar, 23 in Bijapur and 52 in Sukma district have become self-supporting. It is worth mentioning that in order to promote the conservation and promotion of livestock in the state, the state government has so far approved the construction of Gauthan in 10591 villages. Out of which the construction of 8349 Gauthans has been completed and other income-oriented activities including purchase of cow dung, manufacture of vermi compost are being conducted. At present, 1752 Gauthans are being rapidly constructed, the work of construction of remaining 490 Gauthans is yet to be started.
