A few years back, hardly anyone could have imagined that even cow dung could change someone’s life. But as soon as Godhan Nyaya Yojana is implemented in Chhattisgarh, many people are seeing a pleasant change in their lives. Here Gauthan committees are not only becoming financially strong, but there has also been a positive change in the lives of common villagers and herdsmen involved in the service of cattle. The fortunes of the shepherds, who were confined to making cow dung cakes, have also started opening up with this scheme. Mohit, a 61-year-old shepherd of Potiyadih village in Dhamtari district, fulfilled his dream of buying land by selling cow dung. Mr. Mohitram Yadav told that till about two and a half years back, he used to make cow dung cakes and use it as domestic fuel. He used to sell the remaining kandas at half the price. With the implementation of the Godhan Nyaya Yojana, he earned more than one lakh by selling cow dung daily. Ever since the Godhan Nyaya Yojana came, their fortune has improved. He excitedly said in a typical dialect that – Our government has made a plan to make a living by earning our livelihood. Why don’t you think that we will live by selling cow dung in the cowshed…!’ Mr. Yadav said that since the formation of Gauthan in Potiyadih, he sells an average of 50 kilograms of cow dung daily, due to which he earns Rs. 100 per day in addition to his work as a shepherd. So far, he has earned an income of Rs one lakh 10 thousand by selling 550 quintals of cow dung. He told that after the marriage of the elder son, he thought of building a house. He made a deal with the accumulated capital to buy a 14 decimal plot in the village itself, but his concern increased when he came to know that more than one lakh would be required for the registry. Then his wife Draupati reminded him of the amount received from the government by selling cow dung. What was it then, after withdrawing the deposit amount, Mr. Yadav got the land registered immediately. Mr. Yadav and his family are very happy after purchasing the land. Mrs. Draupati told that she is an active member of Gauthan Samiti. There are 8 cows-buffaloes, 26 goats and about 32 chickens in his house. Godhan Nyaya Yojana has brought new colors of happiness in the lives of the Yadav family, which till yesterday was barely making a living, has expressed gratitude to the state government for this.
