According to the intention of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, surveys and projects will be prepared to promote the cultivation of tea in Jashpur area of Chhattisgarh state and coffee in Bastar region. This decision was taken in the first meeting of Chhattisgarh Tea-Coffee Board held at Bij Bhawan here today under the chairmanship of Agriculture and Water Resources Minister Shri Ravindra Choubey. In the meeting, Chhattisgarh Tea-Coffee Board’s Vice-Chairman and Industries Minister Shri Kawasi Lakhma, Additional Chief Secretary Shri Subrata Sahu, Special Secretary Agriculture Dr. S. Bharathidasan, Director Horticulture Shri Matheswaran V., CCF Shri B.P. Singh, Managing Director CSIDC Shri P. Arun Prasad, Additional Director Agriculture Shri S.C. Padma was present. Addressing the meeting, Minister Shri Ravindra Choubey said that in view of the encouraging results of the initial phase of cultivation of tea in Jashpur district and coffee in Bastar region, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has introduced tea in the northern part of the state and coffee in the southern part of the state. Chhattisgarh Tea-Coffee Board has been formed with the objective of promoting the cultivation of tea, connecting and benefiting the farmers, processing and ensuring maximum profit. He directed the officers to conduct a study-survey to study all the possibilities for expanding the cultivation of tea in Jashpur zone and coffee cultivation in Bastar zone and to prepare the project expeditiously for this. Minister Shri Choubey also directed to prepare a report after conducting survey for coffee cultivation in Narayanpur, Sukma, Pakhanjur areas. He said that the officers were also directed to take necessary action regarding the marketing and signing of contracts with companies, to benefit the farmers of tea and coffee cultivators from departmental schemes including Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana. Instructions were also given to establish offices in the first floor of Udyog Bhawan for smooth functioning of the Chhattisgarh Tea-Coffee Board and to submit a proposal for necessary infrastructure and office setup. Regarding preparation of manual for Chhattisgarh Tea-Coffee Board was also discussed in the meeting. It is worth mentioning here that in Jashpur district four is being cultivated successfully in 27 hectares. The climatic and geographical location of Jashpur region is favorable for the cultivation of tea. Keeping in view the possibility of coffee production here, action is being taken to prepare a survey and project for this also. Tea cultivation has been started in Jashpur district by the Forest Department in 100 hectares. Similarly, coffee is being cultivated in 34 hectares under the supervision of Horticulture Department in Bastar zone. This has also started getting production. He informed that coffee is being cultivated in 8 hectares in Darbha, 2 hectares in Bakavan and 24 hectares in Dilmili of Darbha block under the supervision of Horticulture Department. He said that a proposal has been prepared by selecting farmers for coffee cultivation in 5108 hectares in 54 villages of Tokapal, Lohandiguda, Bastanar, Bakwand and Darbha blocks of Bastar.
