In these Gauthans, the purchase of cow dung at the rate of 2 rupees per kg was started from July 20, 2020, under the Godhan Nyay Yojana. So far, more than 20 lakh quintals of Vermi Compost, Super Compost, Super Plus Compost have been produced by women self-help groups by purchasing cow dung in Gauthans, due to which organic farming has been promoted in the state. Godhan Nyay Yojana has proved to be a very popular scheme in the rural areas of the state. Under this scheme, cow dung worth more than 150 crores has been purchased from the cattle rearing villagers in about two years, which has directly benefited the rural cattle rearers. An amount of more than Rs.143 crore has been paid to women self-help groups and Gauthan committees through purchase, manufacture and sale of vermi manure from cow dung. Establishment of Gauthans in villages along with livestock management for the purpose of conservation and promotion of animals- With this the villagers have got a new source of income. The cost of animal husbandry has come down due to free provision of fodder and water in Gauthans. Gothan is also proving to be very helpful in the campaign of livestock stoppage.
