All the domestic consumers of the state are getting great relief from the Half Electricity Bill scheme run by the Chhattisgarh government under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel. From March 01, 2019, up to 400 units of electricity consumed per month, half of the effective electricity rate is being billed. As of September 2022, 41.84 lakh domestic electricity consumers are being benefited under this scheme. In the last 04 years, a rebate of Rs 3151 crore has been given under the scheme. Due to the implementation of the said scheme, the electricity bill of the domestic electricity consumers of the state has been halved, the low and middle class consumers have been able to meet other requirements with the amount of savings. The government has not set any limit for the consumption of electricity for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe farmers. The entire electricity being used by them in farming has been kept free of cost. Under this scheme, eligible farmers are being given a rebate of 6000 units per year in the electricity bill of agricultural pumps up to 3 HP and 7500 units per year in the electricity bill of agricultural pumps of 3 to 5 HP. Option to get electricity at tariff has also been given. Farmers opting for the flat rate option will have to pay the electricity bill at the rate of only Rs.100/- per HP per month, without any cap on the power consumed by them. The government has not set any limit for the consumption of electricity for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe farmers. The entire electricity being used by them in farming has been kept free of cost. While expanding the scheme, from August 2018, the facility of flat rate is being made available on all the irrigation pumps of all the farmers of the state without any limit on the capacity of the pump. Under this, for the second pump up to 5 horse power, Rs. Two hundred rupees per horse power per month for first and second pump above 5 horse power Rs. Facility has been provided for bill payment at the rate of Rs. 300 per horse power per month for 5 horse power pumps and Rs. 300 per horse power per month for third and other pumps above 5 horse power. In the last 04 years, an exemption of Rs 10,432 crore has been given under the scheme. A grant of Rs 1 lakh per pump and a maximum of Rs 1.50 lakh is being provided for the energization of agricultural pumps. In the last 04 years, line expansion work of 64,918 pumps has been completed by spending 534 crores. Free electricity up to 30 units is provided every month to families living below the poverty line. The state government reimburses the electricity bill amount for the consumption of 30 units of these BPL connection holders.
