Naiduniya Representative, Gwalior. On 12 September 2024, about 125 people trapped in the water in the villages of Senkara and Khediraimal of Dabra tehsil of the district have been rescued safely. So far, about 525 people have been rescued safely from many villages of the district by the teams of the district administration and district panchayats with the help of SDRF. All these people have been given shelter in temporary relief camps. The district administration has made adequate arrangements for food items and medicines in the relief camps. Joint teams are continuously visiting the villages of the district affected by heavy rains and helping the people.
Collector Ruchika Chauhan informed that through the state government, a team of NDRF from Hyderabad had left for Gwalior in a special plane to rescue people trapped in the waterlogging in village Senkara of Dabra tehsil. Helicopters were also called, but at the local level, the joint teams of the district administration and Janpad Panchayat, with hard work and understanding, with the help of SDRF, safely rescued all the people trapped in the water in village Senkara and Khediraimal, so the help of the team coming from Hyderabad was not needed.
Two units of the Army are also helping in the rescue operation
The help of the army is also being taken in the villages and urban areas affected by the waterlogging caused by heavy rains in the district. The Army is also helping in the rescue work when the district administration asks for help. Collector Chauhan said that two big teams of Army Cantt Murar have arrived to help in the rescue work. One team is engaged in helping in the relief and rescue work in Murar area and the other team in Dabra area. NDRF teams have also reached Gwalior district to help in the rescue work.
Teams were engaged in rescue work under the leadership of District Panchayat CEO
On the instructions of Collector Chauhan, Chief Executive Officer of Zila Panchayat Vivek Kumar toured the waterlogged villages of the district throughout the day on Thursday. He successfully carried out rescue operations in various villages along with the regional SDM, CEOs of Janpad Panchayats, officials of the electricity distribution company and the food department. With the help of regional Gram Panchayats, food packets were also distributed in relief camps. In his presence, people were evacuated safely with the help of joint teams in villages Lidhaura and Milghan.
People were rescued from these villages
Joint teams of district administration, district panchayat and other departments, SDRF (State Disaster Management Force) have safely rescued 15 people from Adivasi ka Pura Uttila, 38 from Sasan Bhitarwar, 70 from Nandon ka Dera Dabra, about 140 from Khediraimal and Senkara Dabra, about 135 from Gurunanaknagar Dabra and about 50 people from village Ikhara Tehsil Tansen and taken them to relief camps. Apart from this, about 40 people have also been successfully rescued from villages Milghan and Lidhaura. Teams of the district administration are still engaged in relief and rescue work in the affected villages. Collector Ruchika Chauhan reached the urban and rural areas of the district and took stock of the relief and rescue operations.
Water is being released continuously from many dams
Due to the continuous rains in the last few days, all the major dams of Gwalior district including Tighra, Ramua, Kakato, Upper Kakato, Pahsari and Harsi have become full of water. Water is being released continuously from all the dams. Collector Ruchika Chauhan has appealed to the residents of the villages situated in the command area and downstream (lower area) of these dams to be cautious.
Heavy rain forecast further
Collector Ruchika Chauhan has said that the weather department has predicted heavy rains in the future as well. All the residents of the district should be very cautious. She has appealed that if the walls and roof of their house are weak, then they should take shelter in the government buildings identified by the district administration or go to their relatives’ house. By Thursday morning, about 1008 mm of rain had fallen in the district, which is 463.8 mm more than last year. Last year, 544 mm of rain was recorded during this period.
Financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased
Four people have died in Gwalior district due to the conditions created by the continuous heavy rains in the last few days. The Chief Minister has announced financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakhs to the families of the deceased. According to the information received, the district administration has received information about a person being swept away in the strong current of Patai Nala in Ghatigaon of the district. Apart from this, Uma Baghel died due to the collapse of a kutcha house in Jakhara village, Mukesh Baghel died due to the collapse of a kutcha house in village Senthri and Aman son of Dharmendra Rawat died due to the collapse of a kutcha house in village Kosa.
