Naiduniya representative, Indore. Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, which has received A+ grade, has decided not to get the institution assessed through the old system of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Due to fear of falling grade and incomplete preparation, the university has separated itself from the grading process.
This is the reason why it has not applied to NAAC till June 30, but now it is engaged in adopting the new system of NAAC which will be implemented from April 2024. Recently, the university had called a meeting regarding NAAC, in which the new system was explained to the heads of departments. Under this, emphasis was laid on starting the preparations of the departments regarding accreditation.
Fewer appointments and research
The condition of the university has deteriorated in the last five years. Paper league, less appointments, decline in research work, delay in examinations and results are some of the main reasons. Due to this, the university feared that it would be difficult to retain even the A+ grade of the previous time. Due to this, the university has come out of the old system.
According to sources, experts were asked to assess the condition of the institute. They told the senior officials, from the vice chancellor to the registrar, that even an A+ is hard to come by. Experts said that 210 teaching posts are vacant in UTD. In 13 years, advertisements were issued for 92 posts, but recruitments were done for 40 posts. Even controversies have arisen over the appointments. Due to this, the university showed interest in moving to the new system of NAAC.
Now assessment will be done on ten parameters
NAAC’s grading system is a decade old, in which 700 marks were given after Self Study Report (SSR) and 300 marks after peer team inspection. Earlier, the institutions had to provide information on 7 parameters and 130 points, but now this process has ended. Now the institution will be assessed on ten parameters, but it is a bit difficult to meet them.
The number of new buildings, equipment related to research work, research, patents will have to be increased. Apart from this, placements will also have to be increased. Along with this, the student-teacher ratio will have to be equalized. After that, accreditation or non-accreditation will be given on the report of the institute. Due to this, the challenge in front of the institutes has increased. They now need to strengthen the data in the report.
