Navdunia representative. New age luxury cars equipped with state-of-the-art facilities are seen on the roads every day. But when the 80-year-old royal collection of jeeps came on the roads of Bhopal, people’s gaze stopped. Bhopal Nawab Hamidullah Khan’s love for jeeps is well known and some jeeps from his collection were seen running on the city roads on the morning of Independence Day. In the vintage car rally, these jeeps became the center of attraction among the people in the part of the city where they reached. In this rally of 18 vintage jeeps, five jeeps are from the personal collection of Bhopal Nawab Hamidullah. While the other 13 vintage jeeps belonged to other jeep lovers of the city.

Bhopal Nawab had made a collection of 18 jeeps by importing them from England
Club founder Danish Anwar said that Nawab Hamidullah had a collection of 18 vintage jeeps, which he had imported from England and America in those days. He used to go for walks and hunting around the city in these jeeps. After his death, some jeeps were taken over by his daughters and some were sold by the family. Out of them, five jeeps are with our group, which our grandfather had bought about 30-35 years ago. Apart from these jeeps, old jeeps of the family have also been included in the vintage rally.
Vintage jeeps were used in World War
The oldest car in the Vintage Jeep Rally was a 1942 Ford GPW, which was bought by Salman Mohammad Khan’s grandfather from the Nawab family. This jeep was used in the World War, which was brought from America to England. Apart from this, a 1952 Willys Jeep was also included in the oldest collection. Other jeeps included jeeps from the 60s and some 70s.
All these jeeps were passed on from their grandfather to their grandchildren and now they are maintaining and caring for them just like their grandfathers did. It is very difficult to maintain a 75-year-old vehicle. It takes a lot of money and time. But it is this passion that helps us keep them alive and roaring on the road.
The slogan of today’s rally is to save Bhopal’s heritage
Save the history of Bhopal. Save the old jeeps of Bhopal. The rally started from Iqbal Maidan and went towards Kaliya Soudh Dam, then returned to Iqbal Maidan via Naya Bazar. While riding, we got some great experiences like school students started shooting videos and clicking pictures with their phones, and we saw excitement in every person we met.
We also crossed a few super bike groups, and they too looked amazing on the road with our 75 year old jeeps. This rally is organized by Bhopal Willy’s GPW Club, India’s largest vintage jeep group. This group was founded in 2017 with 3 jeeps, and now has more than 40 members. What makes this group special.
This group is not connected to any political party or any commercial organization or company. It is a non-political and non-financed club. This was our 9th rally. Every rally has a different motto. The motto of the first rally was to save wildlife. During our tour, we did not break any traffic rules and did not harm any animal. It was a peace rally.
