Kapil Parmar, a resident of Sehore district who learnt Judo while living in Bhopal, will also present his claim to win a medal for the country. He was a victim of an accident at the age of 15
When he was just 15 years old, he got a severe electric shock while working in the field, which damaged his retina. Because of this, he can see only 20 percent. But he did not give up and worked hard by turning his weakness into strength.
There is hope of a medal from Kapil
Today he is a big name in Judo for the country and is also a medal hope for the country in Paralympics. His fans are expecting a gold medal from him. He is the number two ranked Para Judo player in the world. According to Kapil, to fulfill his dream, his father also worked as a labourer, porter and taxi driver.
There was an electric shock when the water motor was started
According to Kapil Parmar, it was the year 2009. The field was filled with water everywhere. As soon as he went to the field to start the water motor, he got an electric shock. The current was so strong that even his fingers got stuck together. Even today, two or three fingers cannot be raised.
A journey full of difficulties
Two years after the electric shock, he started wearing glasses. Then he told his mother that he could not see and also had a headache. His mother took him to the doctor, where he was advised to wear high power glasses. After this, he started seeing a little clearly and the headache reduced. After this, the number of his glasses increased. After a few years, he also had to remove the glasses. After this, he could see only a little. He could not see at all at night. Then in Bhopal, he came to know about Blind Judo.
Took training in Bhopal in the initial days
Kapil came to the capital Bhopal and started training at Shri Bliss Mission for Para and Bright Institute located at Lalghati under the guidance of coach Praveen Bhatele since 2017. With time, his game improved and he started performing well at the national level. When there was a shortage of facilities, he came to Tatya Tope Stadium of MP Sports Department and took special training in Judo. After this, Kapil started performing better in national and international level competitions. These days Kapil trains at the Indian Blind and Para Judo Association established in Lucknow, where coach Munavvar Anjar Ali Siddiqui trains him.
This is how Kapil moved ahead
Kapil Parmar got recognition in 2023, when he won a silver medal for the country in the 60 kg category JK category in the fourth Asian Para Games. After this he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi congratulated him. Earlier, Kapil had expressed his intentions by winning gold in Commonwealth Judo Championship-2019, bronze in IBSA Judo Grand Prix-2022, gold in IBSA Judo Tokyo International Open Tournament-2022. After this, he won a gold medal in IBSA Judo Grand Prix-2023. He won silver in individual and bronze in men’s team championship in IBSA Judo Asian Championship-2023. Kapil has played ten international competitions so far, in which he has won medals in nine. He is the second best player in the world.
