Adani Power Maintains Top Tier ESG Standing Among Indian Power Firms

Ahmedabad, 7 September — Adani Power Limited, the country’s largest private thermal power producer, reported an ESG score of 66 in the latest NSE Sustainability assessment, up from 65. The improvement underscores the firm’s focus on low‑carbon generation, operational efficiency, and community development.

The NSE Sustainability rating retained the ‘Aspiring’ label, positioning Adani Power ahead of most Indian thermal, mixed‑fuel and integrated energy companies. The agency, a subsidiary of NSE Indices, evaluates listed firms on environmental impact, social contribution, and governance quality.

Environmental gains stem from scaling ultra‑supercritical technology, real‑time emission monitoring, and robust programmes for water conservation and waste reduction. Socially, the company operates scholarship schemes for under‑privileged students, conducts regular health camps, and implements livelihood‑enhancement projects in plant‑adjacent villages.

Governance metrics were bolstered by an increased share of independent directors on all board committees, exceeding regulatory norms, and by extending ESG criteria to suppliers and contractors across the supply chain.

Additional sustainability recognitions include a 71‑point score in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment and a 4.3‑out of 5 rating from FTSE Russell. Careage’s FY 2025‑26 ESG rating of 80 points placed the firm in the ‘Leadership’ bracket, well above the sector average.

The stock closed at ₹204.40 on the NSE on Monday.
