AI‑Based Real‑Time Tracking to Boost Transparency in Maharashtra's City Projects

Maharashtra has taken a decisive step toward modernising urban governance by introducing AI‑powered real‑time tracking of municipal projects. The move, announced by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, will see every construction activity geo‑tagged and monitored through GIS platforms.

Under the new directive, a special committee chaired by senior officials from the Directorate of Municipal Administration will oversee the rollout. The committee will compile data on progress, quality and spending, producing an exhaustive report for the state government within a month.

The system is designed to allow not only government officials but also local residents, welfare groups, NGOs, academic experts and elected representatives to view live updates. This inclusive approach is expected to curb fund diversion, improve adherence to timelines and raise overall construction standards.

The initiative dovetails with larger state programmes targeting fast‑track completion of major redevelopment projects such as BDD Chawl, Motilal Nagar and Kamathipura, aiming to standardise project tracking across the Urban Development Department.
