Food Prices Jump Almost 6% in August, While Tomatoes and Potatoes Fall

Total food inflation for the month stood at 5.95 percent. Onion, ginger and garlic prices surged by 48.27 percent, 73.82 percent and 43.6 percent respectively. In contrast, tomato prices fell by 31.09 percent and potatoes became 13.14 percent cheaper, providing some relief to shoppers.
