Speaking to IANS, BPCL Marketing Director Sukhmal Kumar Jain addressed growing public anxiety over fuel supplies, clarifying that India is not facing any shortage of petrol or diesel. He explained that public sector oil companies are effectively managing both supply chains and consumption patterns. With 85,000 of the country’s one lakh fuel pumps under government control, Jain confirmed that stock levels remain consistent. While he admitted that sporadic disruptions could arise from unrelated issues, he stressed there is no nationwide scarcity. Jain also pointed to the turbulent global oil market, citing sharp fluctuations in crude prices, freight charges, insurance, and the rupee-dollar exchange rate, which has moved from around 89-90 to nearly 96. These combined pressures have resulted in substantial daily losses for oil marketing companies, yet they continue to prioritize seamless fuel availability for consumers across India.
