Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and the Department of Post (DoP) have entered into a significant agreement. This partnership will enable people across the country to purchase BSNL SIM cards and recharge their mobile phones through post offices.
Over 1.65 lakh post offices will serve as sales points under the agreement. This will provide considerable relief, particularly to people residing in rural and remote areas.
Post offices will handle customer onboarding. BSNL will supply SIM card stock to post offices and train their employees. The Department of Post will provide new connections and recharge facilities to customers in a secure and standardized manner.
The government states that this partnership will allow people in rural and backward areas to easily access BSNL services at their nearest post office, promoting goals such as Digital India, financial inclusion, and socio-economic development.
A pilot project of this agreement was conducted in Assam, where it was highly successful. It is now being implemented nationwide. The MoU was signed in the national capital, Delhi.
This collaboration combines the reliable network of India Post and BSNL’s telecom expertise, ensuring affordable and accessible connectivity for every citizen. This partnership will extend BSNL’s services to every corner of the country.
The agreement will be effective from September 17 for one year. It can be extended if needed. Both departments will review it monthly and strictly adhere to cybersecurity and data privacy regulations.
