BSNL, the state-owned telecom company, is accelerating its network expansion. Following the recent launch of its 4G network, BSNL is preparing to enter the 5G race. Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced at the Kautilya Economic Enclave 2025 that the existing 4G towers will be upgraded to 5G. This means that consumers across the country will soon enjoy high-speed 5G internet at affordable prices via the BSNL network. The upgrade of 4G towers to 5G is expected to take 6 to 8 months. Scindia highlighted India’s inclusion in the global 4G technology club, which previously consisted of companies such as ZTE, Huawei, Nokia, Samsung, and Ericsson. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated 92,564 towers, expanding BSNL’s 4G network across India. India has developed its own 4G standard, and the upcoming 5G upgrade will provide end-to-end 5G network benefits to the public.
