The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has proposed changes to cybersecurity rules to curb fraudulent activities associated with mobile phone numbers. A new draft of cybersecurity rules, filed on June 24, suggests the creation of a platform for mobile number verification. This platform will include all entities licensed for customer verification.
The proposed MNV (Mobile Number Verification) platform aims to help authorized entities and licensees verify if a phone number used by a user or company exists in the database. The DoT’s draft also mentions entities that use numbers or transactions to verify users, known as TIUEs (Telecommunication Identifier User Entities).
