Coforge Board Appoints Interim Chair Vivek Sharma Following OP Bhat Exit
After O.P. Bhat resigned as chairman amid concerns raised by an internal audit, Coforge’s board swiftly named independent director Vivek Sharma as interim chairman. The audit, carried out under the FY26 Q2 internal audit plan, flagged gaps in the board evaluation process and incomplete disclosure of the Board Evaluation Report, including details of the chairman’s performance. Bhat’s explanations were deemed insufficient, leading to his resignation on September 8, prior to any final board ruling.
The market reacted sharply, with Coforge’s shares slipping to a low of ₹1,780.70 intraday, roughly 8.7% below the previous close of ₹1,950. By mid‑morning, the stock was trading around ₹1,862, down about 4.5%.
Sharma’s interim tenure is set to run until January 31, 2027. The company also noted that Bhat remains an independent director at Walkheart Ltd, where he sits on audit, stakeholder‑relations and capital‑raising committees.
