Domestic DIIs Remain Net Buyers While FIIs Flip to Buying

Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) continued to act as net buyers in the Indian share market, investing Rs 7,813 crore in equities over the last week. Their activity contrasted with a single‑day sell‑off of Rs 3,661 crore on Friday.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) changed their stance on the same day, buying Rs 1,166 crore of equities after a period of significant net selling. Over the preceding week, FIIs sold Rs 8,991 crore, a sharp reduction from the Rs 30,294 crore sold in the week before that.

Cumulative figures from October 1 to October 16 reveal that FIIs have sold a total of Rs 48,769 crore, while DIIs have put in Rs 48,168 crore, leaving the overall market flow nearly balanced.

Analysts argue that the slowdown in foreign selling and the Friday inflow indicate a stabilising sentiment, although the persistent high price of Brent crude— around $105 a barrel— could still pose a risk to the recovery path.

Investors are also monitoring external geopolitics, especially the ongoing US‑Iran tensions, and domestic cues such as the upcoming earnings of FY27 Q2 and the RBI Monetary Policy Committee minutes expected later in the week. The recent rally in benchmark indices, reinforced by a stronger rupee and softer U.S. Treasury yields, has helped sustain market confidence.
