Double Contribution Convention Eases Social Security for Indian Professionals in UK
New Delhi, July 15 – Under the newly ratified Double Contribution Convention (DCC), Indian professionals taking short‑term roles in the United Kingdom will no longer need to make social security contributions in both countries for up to five years. Instead, they can maintain their contributions solely in India, simplifying payroll processes and reducing costs.
The DCC was finalised with the cooperation of the Indian government and is expected to benefit thousands of IT engineers, consultants, and researchers who travel to the UK for project work. Nasscom praised the arrangement as a practical step toward deeper economic integration between the two nations.
In parallel, the India‑UK Free Trade Agreement has eliminated duties on roughly 99% of Indian exports, covering nearly the entire trade value between the countries. This tariff‑free access, combined with the DCC, is projected to boost bilateral trade, attract new investment, and reinforce talent pipelines.
Nasscom’s leadership reiterated that these measures align with the "Developed India" vision, offering a more competitive environment for Indian tech firms and enhancing the country's global economic standing.
