Apple is poised to enter the foldable phone market, with anticipation building for its first foldable iPhone. Recent leaks have fueled excitement, and now details regarding the launch timeline, pricing, and potential specifications have emerged.
According to an investor note accessed by CNBC from JP Morgan analyst Samik Chatterjee, the foldable iPhone is expected to launch in September 2026, alongside the iPhone 18 series, rather than with the iPhone 17 series. Multiple reports, including industry supply chain sources, have also indicated a September 2026 launch timeframe.
Potential specifications for the foldable iPhone include a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer display. Notably, the upcoming foldable phone is rumored to feature a crease-free inner panel, promising a seamless viewing experience when unfolded.
Analysts estimate the price of Apple’s first foldable smartphone to be $1,999 (approximately ₹1.74 lakh). This could potentially generate $65 billion in revenue for the company. Earlier leaks suggested a base variant price of $2,300 (approximately ₹1.99 lakh). Reports indicate that the phone will be released in limited units. In terms of dimensions, the folded phone is expected to be 9.2mm thick, and 4.6mm when unfolded.
