Food safety authority orders removal of Dabur items citing unverified claims

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken decisive action against Dabur India Ltd., ordering the removal of several food products that feature unsubstantiated claims such as “100 percent pure”, “100 percent natural” and “100 percent tender coconut water”.

The regulator emphasized that these statements are ambiguous and lack scientific proof, thereby violating the Food Safety and Standards (Advertising and Claims) Regulations, 2018. It also pointed out that Dabur displayed the “Organic India” logo on its Himalayan Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and Organic Honey without the requisite organic certification, contravening the Organic Foods Regulations, 2017.

Furthermore, the agency noted that Dabur’s homemade coconut milk was marketed with a “100 percent purity” claim, a label not allowed for compound food products. The company had previously received a notice to cease such misleading claims but failed to implement satisfactory corrective measures.

FSSAI has now mandated an immediate cessation of sales for the identified products and requires Dabur to submit an Action Taken Report within 15 days.
