Foxconn is set to begin manufacturing iPhone casings in India, marking a significant expansion of its operations in the country. The Taiwanese electronics giant is establishing a dedicated unit within the ESR industrial park in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu, for the production of metal enclosures for iPhones. This move signifies a major step in Foxconn’s integration into Apple’s Indian supply chain, moving beyond device assembly.
This strategic decision by Foxconn aims to bolster its domestic capabilities and reduce its dependence on China, especially given the evolving global trade dynamics. While the value contribution of iPhone casings might represent a small percentage of the total production value, the inclusion of this process in India indicates Apple’s increasing reliance on the nation. Construction of the new unit is already underway, located near another Foxconn plant that will assemble iPhone display modules.
