Following the viral success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in late 2022, artificial intelligence chatbots have rapidly gained popularity. While ChatGPT remains a leading chatbot, Google has launched some impressive models, including Gemini AI. A notable advantage of Gemini is its integration with Google’s popular services like Gmail and Calendar, streamlining workflows. However, a concerning aspect is that, by default, Google utilizes your conversations with Gemini to train its upcoming AI models.
It’s essential to understand that large language models like Gemini are trained on datasets to learn reasoning, language patterns, and context. Advanced models can identify these patterns, and the datasets enable the models to learn the necessary information. By training on your Gemini conversations, the large language models learn what users ask most frequently, aiding in customizing the AI models for improved content and responses.
People utilize chatbots for various issues, both minor and significant, in their lives. Consequently, Google uses your conversations to train its new AI models. However, if you wish to prevent your data from being used for AI model training, you can opt out. This involves a few simple steps.
To prevent Google from using your Gemini conversations to train its upcoming AI models, you need to disable the Gemini Apps Activity option within the settings. You can do this through the app or website. Google might soon rename this setting to ‘Keep Activity’ after an update, but the method to change the setting will remain the same.
How to Change the Setting for Google Gemini AI:
1. Open Gemini.Google.com in your browser and sign in using your Google account.
2. Tap the three-bar menu on the left side, then click on ‘Settings’.
3. Click on ‘Activity’. A new page will open. Here, tap the ‘Turn Off’ button next to Gemini Activity. After this, Google will no longer use your data for AI training.
