Government Trains 70,000 Chip Engineers, Aims for 85,000

India’s push for semiconductor self‑sufficiency is backed by a massive skill‑development drive. The ministry reported that around 70,000 chip‑design engineers have been trained over the last four years, covering areas such as ASIC design, verification and layout.

The target is to reach 85,000 skilled professionals, a move designed to meet the staffing needs of the growing number of domestic fabs and design houses.

In parallel, the government is reinforcing intellectual‑property rights protection, assuring both Indian innovators and foreign partners that their inventions are secure.
