Green‑Blue Network Planned for Dharavi Under ANDPL Project

The Adani Group’s subsidiary, ANDPL, has launched a green‑blue network initiative as part of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, targeting the revitalisation of the Meethi River and surrounding urban fabric. The plan calls for the phased planting of roughly 40,000 trees within Dharavi and the introduction of 200,000 auxiliary saplings throughout the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, aiming to boost the city’s overall green footprint. Central to the scheme is a 3.3‑kilometre public riverfront that will extend from Matunga Kalward to the riverbank, equipped with viewing decks, cafés and spaces for cultural events, all open to the public. Native tree species and pollution‑absorbing plants will line the promenade, while permeable flooring and bio‑drainage channels will enhance rainwater infiltration, raise groundwater tables and protect the river’s ecosystem over the long term. The project is a joint venture between the Maharashtra government and the Adani Group, and it will be integrated with a 15‑metre wide green corridor, a large central park and multiple neighbourhood gardens, forming a continuous network that improves air circulation, reduces urban heat and offers healthier public amenities. Teracon Environmental Consultancy has been tasked with scientific planting, irrigation, protection and a five‑year maintenance schedule, providing mandatory bi‑annual survival reports. All costs are being shouldered by ANDPL.
