Health insurance fuels 10% growth in India's non-life premium collection for August
The non-life insurance sector in India recorded a 10% year‑on‑year increase in premium collection for August, reaching ₹27,455 crore, according to a CareAge Ratings analysis. Health insurance was the standout performer, delivering an 18% rise to ₹10,834 crore and representing 39.5% of total premiums for the month.
Crop insurance premiums surged threefold in July to ₹3,274 crore after the Kharif registration deadline was extended, shifting a large portion of business into August. This timing change reduced the fire and crop loss component from 11.1 percentage points to 4.2.
While motor insurance growth fell to 14.3% in July amid weaker vehicle registrations, the retail segment continued to drive overall sector expansion. Private and standalone health insurers together secured 73.3% of the August premium pool, the highest share recorded this fiscal year.
