Health Ministry Seeks Public Feedback on Proposed Drug Rule Amendments

As part of its effort to curb the illicit distribution of high‑risk medicines, the Health Ministry has opened a public comment window on the proposed amendments to the Drugs Rules, 1945.

Citizens, healthcare professionals and industry stakeholders can submit their observations through an online portal set up by the Ministry. The feedback will be evaluated alongside the recommendations of the Drugs Technical Advisory Board, which has already given a favourable nod to the draft.

Authorities stress that incorporating diverse viewpoints will help fine‑tune the regulatory framework, ensuring that the new surveillance measures are practical and effective. The consultation period will remain open for three weeks, after which the final version will be prepared for Gazette publication.

The Ministry reiterated that protecting public health remains its top priority, and that stricter monitoring of Schedule H, H1 and X drugs is essential to prevent misuse and safeguard patients.
