However, errors can occur due to incorrect data entry or mistakes during the card’s creation. If your name is incorrectly printed on your Voter ID card, you can rectify it both online and offline. To change your name on the Voter ID card, you need to fill out Form 8. This article explains Form 8 and how to request a name change online.
**What is Form 8?**
Form 8 allows you to apply for corrections to your details in the voter list. You can access this form at https://voters.eci.gov.in/. This government website provides easy access to Form 8.
**How to Change Your Name Online**
First, visit the National Voter Service Portal at https://voters.eci.gov.in/. On the homepage, select the option for ‘Shifting of Residence/Correction of Entry in Existing Electoral Roll.’ You will find a small image of Form 8 next to this option; click on it.
To change your name, click on Form 8. You will then be prompted to enter your mobile number. Ensure you enter the number linked to your Voter ID card. An OTP will be sent to your number; enter it to verify.
After logging in, you will be asked to enter your Voter ID card number, and your details will appear. Next, you will be asked what changes you want to make to your Voter ID; choose the ‘Correction of Entry’ option.
Clicking this option will open Form 8, where you must fill in some essential information. Before submitting, thoroughly review all details. Once reviewed, click the submit button.
